Biscuit is now 10 mos old. He's twice the size of what the breeder says his mom weighed (4 lbs) In fact more than twice the size, he weighs 14 lbs. I can't imagine his mother carrying around this gigantic dog in her belly.
Well, honestly, I found the breeder on the internet and they sell several different small breeds. I wonder if a mistake was made and Biscuit isn't a Maltese. He's all white, he's black in the right places. so he could be a throwback to a larger Maltese but he could easily be a Bichon Frise, his hair is curly, his ears and tail resemble a Maltese but so do Bichon's. He seems to be a bit more independent than a Maltese is reported to be, he likes to be near me but he definitely isn't the couch potato they are reported to be. According to a Google search, " The normal Bichon weight is approximately 10 to 18 pounds". Again, according to a Google search, "Maltese es Average Weight: 6-8 lbs". I don't care but I did buy him to travel with and right now I don't know if I can stuff him under the seat of an airplane as planned. Phooey! I hate putting him in a crate and making him ride under the plane but that may be the way we have to go. If so, I'm going to be doing a lot more driving than flying. Too bad, I love to fly.

You got a big boy there! He's so adorable! Does he know any tricks yet?
Oh yes, he can sit on command and will "fetch" a toy but doesn't always bring it back. He gets up on the couch for me to put his harness on when I tell him we're going for a walk and if we're outside and I want him to go in, I say "Lets go get supper-Chicken" and he runs to the door. When we go out if I say "fishies" he goes to the pond. He's a fun little guy.
Hello. I found your blog on Spoiled Maltese and immediately felt a kindred spirit. We have several things in common, number one being maltese owners. The second thing we have in common is I love fiber too. I don't machine knit, but I love to knit and crochet. Basically, I'm happiest when I have a needle in my hand of some kind:) Anyway, I find your blog very interesting and will be a regular visitor:)
oh yea, Lexi (my maltese) will also sit on command and fetch but doesn't always bring back either. I also work for the government (not retired):(
Hi Mimi, glad to hear we're kindred spirits. How big is your Lexi? I just tried to stuff Biscuit into his flight bag and guess what!!! he doesn't fit. I'm going to visit the pet store with him and buy a crate that will go under the plane, much as I hate the thought. I'll also visit the vet and get him Micro Chipped, just in case the worst happens. I guess I'm going to have to ride him around in that crate in the car really often between now and when we fly so he will be used to it. He is a real big baby but then I think that's the breed.
Lexi weighs in between 6 and 7 lbs. She's 19 mos. old now and full of energy. But she is the love of our lives. My husband and I wouldn't trade her for anything!
I went to your blog to see your machine knit sweater that you commented about on the LK150 list. I have shown Bichons and it looks to me like Biscuit is a Maltese/Bichon cross. He would be bigger and have a curlier coat if he was all Bichon but his coat looks too wavy and his size indicates that there is some Maltese in him. Whatever he is, he's adorable! Sorry he isn't going to fit under your seat on the plane though.
Hi Susan, thanks for the thoughts,my groomer swears he's all Maltese, I guess I don't care other than I wish he would have fit under that seat of the plane, I had to leave him in the kennel here and he came home so stressed he didn't recognize me the first day. I was really upset and so was he.
